My name is Namrata Roy. I am a graduate student in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at University Of California Santa Cruz (UCSC).

I am working with Prof. Kevin Bundy on Galaxy evolution, their connection with Supermassive Black Holes and AGN feedback. I am a part of Sloan digital Sky Survey (SDSS)-IV MaNGA collaboration. I am currently working on a new class of galaxies discovered by the MaNGA survey, known as the “Red Geysers”. For more details, please check out my Research page.

A summary of My Research

Blazar Variability

I looked at gamma-ray lightcurves from Fermi Gamma Ray Space Telescope and optical light-curves from the YALE/SMARTS monitoring program to investigate blazar variability.

What are red geysers? I describe the unique characteristics of these galaxies and discuss how to identify them.

Low-luminosity Radio-mode AGN found in early type passive galaxies which host AGN-driven winds. I am also looking at the morphology and extent of the radio continuum emission using LOFAR, VLASS and FIRST.

I use spatially resolved MaNGA IFU and Keck ESI data to look at detailed Ionized gas kinematics (Ha, [NII]) and emission line profiles to confirm the radially outflowing nature of the gas entrained in wind.

I see signatures of cool neutral gas inflowing and possibly fueling the low-luminosity AGNs in red geysers. I use NaD absorption line to trace the cool and clumpy gas dynamics.

I use cosmological zoom-in and Isolated galaxy simulations to understand various aspects of star formation, stellar feedback, AGN feedback in a wide range of galaxies.
